Additionally I ordered another gig of RAM (the S205 came with 1 GB) and a 60GB OCZ Vertex Plus SSD.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s always good to know what you&#8217;re up to before taking up the screwdriver so I took a look at the <a href=\"http:\/\/consumersupport.lenovo.com\/ge\/en\/UserGuide\/Guide_show_1297999688883.html\" title=\"Lenovo IdeaPad S205 Hardware Maintenance Manual\" target=\"_blank\">S205s Hardware Maintenance Manual<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/download.lenovo.com\/UserFiles\/UserGuide\/en\/User's%20guides%20and%20manuals\/S205\/Lenovo%20IdeaPad%20S205%20Hardware%20Maintenance%20Manual.pdf\" title=\"Lenovo IdeaPad S205 Hardware Maintenance Manual\" target=\"_blank\">direct link to the PDF<\/a>) and off I went with disassembling the netbook:<br \/>\n<a class=\"shutterset_\" href='http:\/\/jaran.de\/goodbits\/wp-content\/gallery\/upgrading-a-lenovo-s205-with-more-ram-and-an-ssd\/img_1948_sm.jpg' title=''><img src='http:\/\/jaran.de\/goodbits\/wp-content\/gallery\/upgrading-a-lenovo-s205-with-more-ram-and-an-ssd\/thumbs\/thumbs_img_1948_sm.jpg' alt='img_1948_sm' class='ngg-singlepic ngg-none' \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After careful removal of the old harddrive, replacement with the SSD and adding the additional gigabyte of RAM it was ready to be closed up again.<br \/>\n<a class=\"shutterset_\" href='http:\/\/jaran.de\/goodbits\/wp-content\/gallery\/upgrading-a-lenovo-s205-with-more-ram-and-an-ssd\/img_1952_sm.jpg' title=''><img src='http:\/\/jaran.de\/goodbits\/wp-content\/gallery\/upgrading-a-lenovo-s205-with-more-ram-and-an-ssd\/thumbs\/thumbs_img_1952_sm.jpg' alt='img_1952_sm' class='ngg-singlepic ngg-none' \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After some trouble with installing Windows XP (I had to slipstream Service Pack 3 into the installation CD to make it work) all the work was definitely worth it:<br \/>\n<a class=\"shutterset_\" href='http:\/\/jaran.de\/goodbits\/wp-content\/gallery\/upgrading-a-lenovo-s205-with-more-ram-and-an-ssd\/as-ssd-bench-ocz-vertex-plus-04-02-2012-08-2.png' title=''><img src='http:\/\/jaran.de\/goodbits\/wp-content\/gallery\/upgrading-a-lenovo-s205-with-more-ram-and-an-ssd\/thumbs\/thumbs_as-ssd-bench-ocz-vertex-plus-04-02-2012-08-2.png' alt='as-ssd-bench-ocz-vertex-plus-04-02-2012-08-2' class='ngg-singlepic ngg-none' \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re going to install an SSD, be sure to read about partition alignment first, especially if you&#8217;re installing Windows previous to Vista!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since my 5 year old Sony Vaio Laptop is in the process of disintegrating I bought a Lenovo S205 netbook.
